Findings from BirdLife International BirdLife Zimbabwe state that the demand for vultures in traditional medicine is a major threat, with up to 29% of recorded vulture deaths in Africa linked to belief-based use. Some species have declined by over 90% in the last 50 years.




Africa is home to eleven species of vultures. Seven face the risk of extinction, listed as vulnerable, endangered, or critically endangered on the IUCN Red List. The major threats are poisoning, belief-based use, electrocutions and collisions - BirdLife International
