Hearing rumours of falconers searching for active Peregrine nests in Sligo uplands, claiming they won the right to take a wild chick into captivity in a National Parks & Wildlife Service Peregrine Lottery. Could this be true??? In 2019??? @npwsBioData BirdWatch Ireland Irish Raptor Study Group

@McNicholasDavid Birdwatch Sligo @npwsBioData Irish Raptor Study Group Irish Wildlife Trust Without getting in to too much detail on twitter, it is something we're aware of, concerned about and have serious questions as to its compatibility with the Birds Directive - and we'll be bringing that to the relevant authorities for sure!

No Osprey to be seen this morning at Mullaghmore, North Co Sligo but lots of Whooper Swan activity with small groups coming in off the sea, and others (like this group) moving on inland after a rest and a preen. Nicely lit by the low angled sun. Pic by Mícheál Casey

This Norwegian-ringed Blackbird was retrapped yesterday in a garden near Tubbercurry, reminding us that many of the common birds wintering in our gardens may have Scandinavian accents!
