"This could put more pressure on women to make compromises and sacrifices at an individual level, when we know that there are many more impactful ways in which both the NHS and the government could address climate change at a national and global level." dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1…

I'm really sorry that the Positive Birth Book is again unavailable from Amazon. This is to do with ongoing issues with the publisher over which I have no control. It's extremely frustrating. You should be able to get one from any other bookshop and hopefully back on Amazon soon.

Er...this is not a 'new' trend! It's featured in my Positive Birth Book published 2017, and I'm pretty sure I wrote about it a year or two before that in my column for Best magazine! Nice to see it getting coverage though! Women love this option! dailymail.co.uk/health/article…

"Research shows that a positive birth experience is dependent on two things: the birthing mother’s ability to make informed choices and those choices being respected and supported by her care provider." Fantastic piece with clear sex based language. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

1/ Our paper on the importance of sexed language in maternity argued that desexing language regarding inherently sexed states risks misunderstanding and other deleterious outcomes. We had only reason, anecdote and fundamental research underpinning. frontiersin.org/articles/10.33…

the NHS should be cautious about commissioning training run by organisations that represent one very small group, and about making changes without an assessment of impacts on diverse and varied cohorts of maternity service users. magonlinelibrary.com/doi/full/10.12…

The ITEMS study is methodologically flawed. The claimed findings are not consistent with the data. Recommendations made are not supported by the findings. Despite these issues, the report was used as the basis for expensive planned intervention in the NHS magonlinelibrary.com/doi/abs/10.129…

.NHS England CQCProf National Maternity Voices National Voices peer-reviewed paper on flawed ITEMS study, widely quoted & relied on in maternity: it is, in short, methodologically a mess, fails to cite relevant literature, & makes recommendations unsupported by data. Better research needed.

“This article below shows why the NHS shouldn’t make changes to care or language for one small group of people. Evidence suggests that personalised care is beneficial to all maternity service users, so it may be the case that improving personalised care overall could improve

This time 11 years ago I was using social media to launch a grassroots movement to improve birth. At the time it was crystal clear that this was a movement for women. Yet now the language leaps out. You just wouldn't see a post like this in the maternity world now.
