Dear Community, We’re excited to share that Black Land Ownership is in the midst of purchasing a .25-acre vacant lot in South Memphis, Tennessee, just five minutes from the Stax Museum and rooted in a neighborhood rich with Black cultural and political history.

Once finalized, this urban lot will be transformed into a community garden co-run by local residents, with two goals: Distribute free produce to neighbors Provide youth-run microbusiness opportunities to generate revenue and skills through the cultivation of food

We’re already in conversation with three local organizations that will support the site long term. Our role is to seed this project—and step back as the community takes the lead.

We aim to raise $7,000 by September 1st, covering: Final property costs Title insurance, closing fees, and travel Debris clearing and initial soil revitalization

This marks an important moment for our work. While we’ve been fundraising for years through grassroots efforts, this is our first official, public-facing campaign with fiscal sponsorship.
