#BOTW KS3 is Black Poppies by Stephen Bourne, which explores the many ways in which the black community helped Britain fight WW1. #BOTW KS4 is Remembrance by Theresa Breslin, a thought provoking story of two families from different backgrounds, brought together by war.

Today I visited my god daughter Becky's primary school class (age 7 & 8) in south London to see their Remembrance display of Dr Harold Moody & George Roberts (two locals). I read them the chapter about Aunty Esther. I had a lovely time.

Paul Embery It's been estimated that in the 1930s the black British population was about 25,000 and mostly concentrated on the port towns and big cities. Their contribution to the war effort is highlighted in a book called 'Under Fire: Black Britain in Wartime' by Stephen Bourne.

Time to read more LGBT+ history to remind myself not to get discouraged. "Fighting Proud" by Stephen Bourne, about queer soldiers in Britain in WWII
