I am happy to share our work on motion in-betweening with phase manifolds ACM / EG Symposium on Computer Animation for producing realistic character animations from a small number of keyframes. Please meet us in LA August 4th for the presentation. - with Sebastian Starke Full Video: youtu.be/MbS1YcKhyyA

I am very thrilled to have received the SCA Doctoral Dissertation Award for my research on data-driven neural character controllers. Many thanks especially to my supervisor Taku Komura as well as to my various collaborators who helped make this happen. computeranimation.org/awards/

Excited to share that the launch of our "Generative Legs" was announced last week at Meta Connect. This ML based technology allows to generate a realistic full body motion given the available tracking signal of the VR headset without additional sensors, in real time.

Something I worked on for Unreal 5.3 is a new experimental "Dead Blending" node - it's a drop-in replacement to the Inertialization node which often produces better blends when the animations are not synced or you have frequent transitions. theorangeduck.com/page/dead-blen…

WHAM defines the new state of the art in 3D human pose estimation from video. By a large margin. It’s fast, accurate, and it computes human pose in world coordinates. It’s also the first video-based method to be more accurate than single-image methods. 1/8

✨ICLR 2024 Spotlight Still hand-labeling phases or tuning GANs with your trajectories? We propose FLD, a self-supervised representation method that extracts spatial-temporal relationships in high-dimensional trajectories. RL policies informed by FLD show extended generality.🧵

Want to #WalkTheDog in the metaverse? In our project at #SIGRAPH2024 with Sebastian Starke , Yuting Ye and Olga Sorkine-Hornung, we develop an approach to learn a common 1D phase manifold from motion datasets across different morphologies, *without* any supervision (1/2)

Animation quality is a difficult subject that I think we've not quite got to grips with yet as a community. My latest blog post shares some of my own thoughts on the subject. My hope is it can kickstart some discussions... or at least new dance moves! theorangeduck.com/page/animation…
