Tonight John Morris commended the achievements of Newham's Just Transition and Sustainable Transport teams.  Our Just Transition team has won a LGC Net Zero Award, recognising our efforts to deliver climate action and environmental justice.

Tonight Blossom Young explained how we now have a Labour government committed to confronting the housing crisis head-on. And here in Newham we stand ready to work with them to deliver the homes that our residents so urgently need.

Here is some of the action The Labour Party is taking: 📌a 10-year rent settlement to enable proper investment planning to improve the quality of homes 📌£39 billion to build genuinely affordable homes 📌£1 billion to tackle homelessness and provide temporary accommodation.

She also outlined some of the progress made through the Housing Services Improvement Plan: 📌 Tenant satisfaction up from 59% to 71%. 📌Electrical safety checks up from 60% to 92%. 📌2,700 overdue repairs identified by the Regulator are now reduced to fewer than 10.

At tonight’s Council meeting, proud to see Labour councillor colleagues leading the way, putting Newham residents first and making decisions that truly contribute to the betterment of our communities.

Newham has led the way with our ‘Eat for Free’ scheme, feeding primary children for over 15 years. The impact, plus other efforts, is clear- our constituencies top UK’s social mobility league. That's why I fully back Labour’s plan to extend free school meals to secondary students
