Soo, ChatGPT, which is definitely not three stochastic parrots in a trench coat, is not only bad at coding but also really good at making people think that it's good at it. arxiv.org/abs/2308.02312

Harder to use, maybe, but easier to explain. Try explaining frequentist confidence intervals in an introductory stats course…

Chris Brown Suchinta Arif Your steps are unassailable as logic itself. But what are GLM and GAM? Recall that we can only test what the logic says we can, namely, d-separation constraints.

Great example of why governments need to consider cumulative environmental impacts. One new coal mine can’t hurt right? theconversation.com/what-harm-coul…

Last week, I described our paper on climate change and wildfires: x.com/PatrickTBrown3… I am very proud of this research overall. But I want to talk about how molding research presentations for high-profile journals can reduce its usefulness & actually mislead the public.

Patrick is involved in the denialist organisation The Breakthrough Institute and this has likely been done specifically to fuel climate denial. I really do hope this prompts academia to take a hard look at how the big journals operate and provide fuel for their nonsense though.

I've been thinking about the huge potential to improve how much of our science gets to where it needs to go (public, stakeholders, managers etc.) with good information design/data viz. This... isn't that. but it is pretty sick! recfish.pelagic-movement.cloud.edu.au/shiny/flathead… (i might be biased)

Some comments from me on #NatureRepairMarket in this piece in Carbon Pulse. Look I know I'm an unabated pessimist but #offsets do seem to, uh, find a way 🦖🧵 carbon-pulse.com/242735/
