Some perspective on how 'giant' giant kelp can be! Our microscopic kelp project saw growth ranging from 1.6m to 3.4m in just 6 months in a relatively sheltered site. Phase 2 research will delve into the viability of growth in deeper, cooler offshore waters at commercial scale.
