Built in 1930, the Edgewood Theatre was designed by John J. Zink, one of the city’s prominent theatre architects. In the late 1960s, Bishop Wilburn S. Watson led the effort to purchase the Edmondson Avenue building as a home for Olivet Baptist Church. zurl.co/urxHN

The Alex Brown & Sons Building survived the Great Fire due to its small size. While taller buildings ignited, a thermal updraft acted as a fan keeping flames from landing on the roof. The heat was so intense, the brownstone near the front door cracked. zurl.co/8Tbnj
