In Somerset, a giant science experiment to tackle flooding began 10 years ago. Rather than trying to resist the sea, a large tract of land was surrendered to it. Lots of people were opposed. The local MP called it “an extravagant, ridiculous scheme”🧵

This was a refreshing and engaging talk last night by Natalie & Rachel Loughran on brutalism in Glasgow. Really recommend catching their fantastic exhibition Brutal Glasgow at Glasgow City Heritage Trust glasgowheritage.org.uk/exhibition-bru… closes this weekend

The heroes at Forensic Architecture have mapped Israel's every move in Gaza and found what's going on: "a deliberate effort to render the territory incapable of supporting life." Every state arming Israel is, simply and literally, an enemy of life.

Returning to Gaza now, I see destruction that defies belief, from Rafah, via Khan Yunis, to Gaza City. This is destruction of an entire society of more than 2 million people, in a densely populated, small, confined territory. This is in no way “self-defence.”

Great quote from Stirling winners Grimshaw about Elizabeth Line ‘They’re difficult and expensive but projects like this have to happen’ - which really should be our rationale for any climate action like national retrofit strategy, flood resilience, housing standards

We're especially interested in more pitches about spaces designed to contain and manage Mad, disabled, unhoused, and elderly people. Also: work around the histories and legacies of historical forms like residential schools and internment camps.

The G20 has removed language calling for the "transition away from fossil fuels," agreed on at COP28, from its leaders' statement in Rio. You can call this backsliding, or you can call it murderous indifference. Really, up to you. ft.com/content/835214…

Fuck this. Look at what they did to my Colin St John Wilson. Also several already raised points about housing provision. Less of this please 😇

Deeply impressed by everything Greta Thunberg posts on here, and this is no exception. There is no solution to climate collapse without the liberation of the oppressed, and she isn't afraid to say it right in the face of one of the most repressive governments on Earth.

Such a stupid decision after years of brilliant campaigning by SAVE Britain's Heritage & many many others The world's on fire but Labour sticking with business as usual for how we use and abuse our built environment.
