Most good advice about prompting is actually about making sure you are giving the models all the necessary info to solve the problem. If you were writing instructions for a human who was completely unfamiliar with you and your problem, you’d need to do all the same things.

One thing I've been thinking about re:LLMs is that they let you get real time feedback about "instruction clarity". I wonder how much this ends up influencing "the instructions people give humans".

Reinforcement fine-tuning for o4-mini is a very powerful unlock to get models to be even more capable. The tricky part is understanding how to format your data and create a grader for training. Like early prompt design, you have to think a lot about how the model sees

If you need a task done every week, don't set up a bot to remind your team members. You have to ask them yourself. This generalizes... An AI cannot hold anyone accountable, and no one can make a commitment to an AI. These functions will still require humans in a post-AGI world.

It’s very, very expensive to be first with an AI breakthrough. It’s much cheaper to be second. It’s cheaper still to replicate a public release. But there are big benefits in the market to being first, so it’s worth paying for.

I thought a 100x price drop for same-quality models would fatten margins for my compute intensive companies. Foolish. Turns out there is unlimited demand for guzzling 100x more compute.

Many of OpenAI's greatest researchers did not have PhDs in AI. Building a path for brilliant technical people without experience to become researchers was critical for our success.
