A lot of educational policy doesn’t work because someone didn’t think it through. You have to consider how your ideas will play out in real life. If you can’t imagine what that looks like, ask someone who can. Like a teacher.

We need more teachers of color. Students do better when they identify with their teachers. #MTBoS #ITeachMath #EdChat chalkbeat.org/newyork/2025/0…

The idea that Covid revealed vast inequities in our education system suggests that large numbers of people (educators & otherwise) just didn't know. Doesn't matter if it's due to privilege, not paying attention, or just not listening, but for many of us, it was not news.

I agree-- and in addition to attracting and retaining high-quality teachers, schools also need to invest time & energy into developing mediocre teachers into excellent ones. We can't keep expecting teachers to professionally develop themselves on top of everything else

Hi. I'm creating a Desmos activity for creating cross-sections of solids. I saw this cool Geogebra visualization at geogebra.org/m/c7cmxfjw . Has anyone done something simiilar in Desmos? Amplify's lesson requires a curriculum subscription. Thanks! #MTBoS #ITeachMath

In a post for Larry Ferlazzo's Classroom Q&A blog, Larisa Bukalov and I wrote about how David Sousa's How the Brain Learns has influenced our math teaching. This book details how the latest neuroscience research should shape instruction. #MTBoS #ITeachMath lnkd.in/gbcR8S8h

‘I became a teacher so I can read scripted lessons written by folks who haven’t taught in a decade in order to prepare students to take a standardized test written above their grade level!’ Said no teacher ever

Why Should Education Experts (and everyone else) Resist “Effective” Practices? Because they know that some common definitions of “effective” fail to take into account important, social, cultural, effective, and psychological processes.🧵 Thoughts about scienceoflearning.substack.com/p/beyond-belie…

Interesting point that privileged people take for granted - the amount of effort required to navigate bureaucracy hurts people with fewer resources disproportionately. NYC HS admissions has the same issue.
