I hope my friends and family in Ontario soon have access to the same opportunity for early detection as we do in BC: self-referral for screening mammograms starting at age 40, and supplemental screening for all women with dense breasts in categories C & D.

This is why “shared decision-making” doesn’t work. The doctor/nurse practitioner doesn’t share the risk, so should not have veto power over the patient’s decision to have screening. They must be obliged to provide a requisition when a woman asks.
