I was banging on about the Moses/Jacobs chaper in his book the other day in Leicester. I started reading it for the Geothe chapter in 1990 and ended up a sustainable transport fan. Anyway, I noticed someone put a PDF up off it, so I say give it a go. langurbansociology.files.wordpress.com/2013/01/berman…

Dutch masterclass parallel crossing: Continuity of material colour and texture for those walking, wheeling, and cycling, massive stop lines so motor vehicles know what to do. Worked a treat. Cars waited for me 20m out.

This rural cycle street worked amazingly well but had me thinking about the lack of a footway, but then I got it. The "cycle" treatment let everyone know it was a pedestrian priority space.

A residential 2way cycle street with separate footway, traffic calming, and advisory cycle lanes. It's definitely a strong street-diet effect. Cars going slow and passing wide. Also check out the passive safety forgiving kerb in case things get tight.

Spotted some light protection on a bike lane in the Netherlands, albeit it was of the heavy hedgehog and non flexi post variety. I will push them for a crow chapter now.

Bikes lying around can cause some pretty bad trip hazards, but the Dutch do use orders to ban bike/motorbike parking in centres.

After two weeks checking out rural 🇳🇱 I have become a fan of no centre line and advisory cycle lanes in a 2m 3m 2m layout. Pic shows a centre line being removed to accommodate this slow passing and overtaking arrangement. It is not ideal but cheap and effective in remote places.

When they talk about this country as being a walking and cycling paradise, they ain't kiddin. Cycle path, footpath, greening, and windmills. ❤️ 🇳🇱 back to blighty now to build more of this 🚶‍♀️♿️ 🚲🇬🇧

Graph of the day from this doc, which IMO is well worth a read. Interesting to see methodology of outliers on traffic incidents and air pollution. PA benefits are obvious slam dunk for AT. itf-oecd.org/improving-qual…
