🚨New episode🚨 Adam Boxer joins me on the pod to discuss why the way most schools run CPD is broken, and how they can fix it. Adam, as ever, sits firmly on the fence and doesn't voice any controversial opinions 🥴 It's a good one.

Isn’t this a false dichotomy? Assessment should mostly be a tool for learning, sure. But sometimes it’s also (or instead) a necessary means for of ranking and sorting children. This is just a truism, no? Like: does anyone think we should never rank/sort?

Interesting paper. If anyone wants to know my thoughts on Instructional Coaching and whether it works in schools check out recent pod with Craig Barton mrbartonmaths.com/blog/adam-boxe…

I loved this episode. Christine really *gets* education, and has done the hard intellectual work required to come to sophisticated and challenging opinions. Everyone should listen to what she has to say. Please share if you can 🙏

Yes, the Carousel teaching mini-whiteboard course has content on MWB placement Fetching routines How to stop students doodling Hover and show AND MORE We love the nuts and bolts, because that's a big chunk of the journey to better implementation. carousel-learning.com/teaching

I don't know who needs to hear this but ALL CALLING OUT IS INAPPROPRIATE. IT IS A GUARANTEED WAY FOR YOUR STUDENTS TO LEARN LESS. >

FACT: You can be the best teacher in the world, but without a holistic and systematic retrieval practice strategy you are wasting your time. FACT: Constructing a strategy like this without good tools is next to impossible. (PS, the best tool is Carousel [FACT])

I love this question from our mini-whiteboard training course, because it relates to something that is completely inexplicable, but I see happening a lot, and am guilty of having done myself! Can you spot the issue?

In which Adam Boxer *discourages* schools from taking a Carousel Teaching course if their school has average levels of calling out. I’ve always wanted @Carou_Learn to be an organisation that knows its own mind. You can’t offer transformational CPD while straddling a fence.

Lovely mention of Carousel‘s “C Scores” feature in this week’s 100% Assessment blog. 100assessment.substack.com/p/a-question-o…

This headline risks blaming exam boards for a government sin. We should not take aim at suppliers who put prices up by inflation (which is basically what’s happening here). We should instead be angry at a below-inflation funding outcome for the sector.

Adam Boxer Questions in do now or I sometimes chuck a homework question in with whiteboard tasks before doing independent work. I love that on carousel you can see the date and time when they did the homework. Usually results in me having a conversation with them as why hw is set.

This video is a perfect little encapsulation of the SUPER PRACTICAL GUIDANCE on teaching strategies we offer in Carousel Teaching. Theoretical CPD is cool, and we do cover key theoretical points, but it’s stuff like this that makes our CPD actionable.
