Sophia Emmons compared frequentist (top) and Bayesian (bottom) approaches to fitting growth curves to tiger #sharks and and showed that the later gave more realistic estimates of maximum size. #sharkscience James Cook Uni @CSTFA_JCU @Jon_Smart1 Brooke D'Alberto @sharkager

The first assessment of fish biodiversity associated with an ancient coastline feature in WA published in PLOS One - we improve our understanding of its function in patterns of mesophotic fish abundance using #BRUVS Australian Institute of Marine Science journals.plos.org/plosone/articl…

Excited to feature in the shiny new IUCN SSC Shark Specialist Group #SharkNews newsletter! 🦈🤓 with a belated #EarthDay message: "Incorporating human dimensions is crucial for #shark conservation, where fisheries, including those of sharks, deliver social welfare outcomes for billions of people"🌍

Out now! Part 1 of a hugely collaborative global project with Save Our Seas Colin Simpfendorfer and many others. All five #sawfish species can be detected via their #eDNA, including an improved lab workflow established in this study - doi.org/10.1002/aqc.35… 📷 NT, Aus @spottedcatshark

1st detection of critically endangered scalloped #hammerhead #shark in Guam in 50 yrs using #eDNA Development, optimisation & validation of an eDNA assay. Led by star Alyssa Budd & top team incl. Madie Cooper Dr Agnès Le Port Roger Huerlimann 🦈🧬 Here! tinyurl.com/3caa546y

Casually trained for 6 weeks during the height of experiments during my PhD and just ran a half marathon. In 3 hrs. In Tasmania with my favourite people (Brooke D'Alberto). Someone call my high school PE teacher up and tell them - it’s the best thing I’ve ever achieved.

🎉 Today we celebrate (as festively as possible) our 11th anniversary! Our host - The Ocean Foundation - featured highlights from our first decade in latest annual report (p. 63: bit.ly/3tqqjRv) and makes it simple to donate to the cause (oceanfdn.org/projects/shark…). THANK YOU! 🙏💕🦈

Love working on this project! 🦈💙 Mick had the fantastic idea to write a children’s book about a sawfishes journey down a river in PNG We hope to strengthen the inter-generational knowledge in a region that provides critical habitat for sawfishes Huge thanks to Save Our Seas

My first paper is now out in Environmental Biology of Fishes! Springer Nature. We produced preliminary age and growth estimates for #bluesharks from #PNG
