Democrats hide behind process issues regarding the strikes in Iran, such as authorization. I know it's a safe harbor but talking to the American public about why we are here, faulty intelligence, failed diplomacy, increased threats to homeland and no plan are what is important.

But Trump First means creating the conditions to be a "wartime president" with "wartime powers" at home. When autocrats speak of "peace" they mean circumstances beneficial to their personal power or financial situation.

I was briefed on the intelligence last week. Iran posed no imminent threat of attack to the United States. Iran was not close to building a deliverable nuclear weapon. The negotiations Israel scuttled with their strikes held the potential for success.

The context matters. We know - for certain - there is a diplomatic path to stop Iran from getting a nuclear weapon. The Obama agreement was working. And as late as a week ago, Iran was back at the table again. Which makes this attack - with all its enormous risks - so reckless.

Pretty sure if someone sent 125 planes including three strategic bombers and dropped 14 MOPs on us, we'd call it "war." That's not a reason *not* to do it, but this is just Vance trying to soothe a MAGA base that's been lied to (again)

It's going to be really difficult celebrating our Independence Day this year knowing that America has never been this close to outright tyranny.

America's most important holiday celebrates our refusal to endow any one person with the powers of a king. And then the MAGA Supreme Court and push-over Congress turn around and do exactly that. Shameful. And so very un-American.

The 4th of July should always be a reminder to us that, in America, no one is above the law. Not even a white supremacist game show host with a bankrupt necktie business.

Independence Day should be about worrying whether the meat has been cooked enough or wondering which song will top a radio station countdown. Independence Day should not be about fretting over the chances of our democracy surviving the year.

In a democracy, a leader can only accrue unlimited power if the other branches of government let him. Like the do-nothing GOP congress did today.

Today, we celebrate the vanquishing of a king and the installation of a system that places no man above the rule of law. This year, more than ever, it feels like wishful thinking than an acknowledgement of history.

The videos of ICE grabbing people off our city streets look like the footage they’d show in a montage at the beginning of a Purge movie to represent the fall of American society.

This can’t be repeated enough: Masked soldiers are disappearing people off our city streets and it’s not some post-apocalyptic, dystopian novel. It’s actual America, 2025.
