If your startup can get people to prepay and you have high margins, it is amazing what happens in terms of capital efficiency. As a founder a $100 million outcome will be the same as a billion dollar outcome for you personally because how much of the company you will still own.

Might be repetitive, but a favorite (and effective) decision razor when listening to a pitch is to determine how/why the target customer purchases the solution. Is the solution an oxygen, aspirin or jewelry value proposition to the customer?

If you think people have scar tissue, you should see organizations. Each time there's a disaster, they create a process to prevent future disasters of that type. Eventually they accrete a thick layer of these processes that prevents them from moving. Then they die.

Angel Investing is more about an attempt to peer into the future to see where technology or markets are headed than it is evaluating current state capabilities. Of course, you don't want to just light capital on fire, but that is always a real possibility.
