Edward had been abandoned by his mother a week before our Surgery Intensive program in Wakiso District. His condition, an abdominal periumbilical abscess, required surgery. Kirudu Hospital agreed to admit him for a possible operation at a fee of 1,000,000 (about 250 USD).

“I lost my first baby. Near the end, a midwife gave me a heavy slap as I was giving a heavy push. The sudden shock of violence stayed with me for a long time,” Masitula said. Bulamu worked to assist her to deliver her 2nd child, she noted a big change in the care she received.

Jamila had only shs.30,000 & was sure that would take her through natural birth at a government funded hospital. However, Bulamu midwives discovered that one of the babies was breech. They quickly offered a free c-section & successfully delivered the healthy twins.

Jane gave birth to her firstborn at a Referral Hospital &says care given to her by Bulamu was a huge contrast. “Midwives asked me to walk away as I didn’t have money to stitch the tear I got during birth. I had to return when I raised shs.70,000 to restore my pre-delivery state.”

Juliet happily holds her daughter. Her labor pains began at 9 pm. She was rushed to a HC & found out that she required specialized care, but couldn't afford to get to Mbale RRH. Bulamu’s ET coordinator paid for her to be driven 29 kms to where her baby was safely delivered.
