Been wanting to visit this grave for a while and pay my respects - Major General Edward ‘Inky Bill’ Ingouville-Williams - commander of 34th Division killed by a shell at Mametz. He was to be found in No Mans Land overnight 1/2 July 1916 helping to bring in his wounded men.

A personal hero of mine and a true Man of Kent (born in Gillingham so just the right bank of the Medway!). Visited him last week.

Just finished the audiobook of The Weimar Years by Prof. Frank McDonough - the last volume of an absolutely superb trilogy by Prof. McDonough. Thoroughly recommend - terrifying to listen to the story of such a proud nation cutting its own throat. Lessons for our own time.
