WINNER OF 2024  CAROLINE HERSCHEL PRIZE LECTURESHIP  ANNOUNCED We are delighted to report that the 2024 Caroline Herschel Prize Lectureship has been won by Dr Heloise Stevance (@Sydonahi) of the University of Oxford. Many congratulations Dr Stevance.

Born 15th November 1738, in Hanover, William Herschel was a talented musician, but became a remarkable observational astronomer. Discovering the planet Uranus in 1781 and aided by his sister Caroline the pair made numerous discoveries of the universe we live in.

OTD - 7th January 1790 Caroline Herschel discovered her third Comet now classified as Comet C/1790 A1 (Herschel). It boosted her reputation as a 'comet hunter' receiving recognition from both England and France - her next comet discovery was just three months later!

Commemorating OTD 9th January 1848 the death of Caroline Herschel. A pioneering comet hunter she was awarded the Royal Astronomical Society’s gold medal in 1828 and accepted as a member of the Royal Astronomical Society in 1835. An inspirational figure in science and astronomy.
