I mean this honestly, not critically: I hope every “Open Schools” movement is prepping to convert to an “Equitable Schools” movement once schools are fully open. The reopening issue will be over in 6-12 months, and we’ll need sustained parent advocacy of all stripes long after.

The pandemic year has been brutal for young people. And it's been much tougher in some places than others. Here's my latest for ProPublica, a story from a part of the country where the line between disruption and normalcy was drawn especially starkly. propublica.org/article/the-lo…

Please watch @dyslexia_black talk about ways educators attributed a source for reading difficulties in an eye-opening survey. 0% blamed the curriculum, teachers, or principal 10% blamed the parents 100% blamed the child We need to talk about this. 💔 youtu.be/xhLUOj8clJ8

What a loving, thoughtful and clear description of the experience of being supportive parents of a trans child. It resonated watching our dearest friends trace a similar path. #TransDayOfVisibility

We’ve spent 4 years making a film about early literacy and are thrilled / relieved / proud as heck to share the trailer. Retweet, share, send it to your kids’ principal, whatever you want. It’s time to get everyone talking about this #quietcrisis. youtube.com/watch?v=6lcfaG…

I was so moved to see Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson confirmed this afternoon. Like so many of you, I can’t help but feel a sense of pride—a sense of joy—to know that this deserving, accomplished Black woman will be a part of the highest court in the land.

The denial of EdSource’s request to release test score data comes at a time when educators are concerned about the pandemic’s impact on reading and math progress, especially in the early years. #caedu #edchat #capol #caleg edsource.org/2022/state-del…

CA refuses to release state assessment data from last year until (conveniently) after elections. How does this center students and the organizations trying to support them? Infuriating. edsource.org/2022/state-del…

The needs of our children should be at the center of every conversation about education. The Oakland REACH & CA Parent Power are pushing the Oakland Unified School District School Board to allow for parent involvement. When parents are involved, students win! This is urgent work.
