Our female hippo ‘Sparky’ is 38 today! 🥳 Did you know that hippos outweigh giraffes? ⚖️ Adult males hippos weigh between 1,600 and 4,500 kilograms, while adult females weigh between 1,300 and 1,500 kilograms. That’s a whole lot of hippo! 🦛 #YourZooYYC

It's #WorldParrotDay! 🦜 We are home to Alexandrine parakeet ‘Newman’. Parakeets are members of the parrot family (Psittacidae). While parakeet is not a taxonomic term, it is used to refer to species distinguished by their smaller size, slender build, and long tail. #YourZooYYC
