As being a theoretical scientist, we are curious about many phenomena in nature. We try to reproduce their dynamical behaviours to understand them with the help of simulations. In line with this aim, what I am doing is to simulate the crystallization of active colloids.

ActiveMatter ITN (@activematteritn) 's Twitter Profile Photo

People are generally familiar with the crystallization, for instance the crystallization of sugar/jam. But, how about the active colloids or more general, active matter? Active matter is basically us, humans, birds, fishes or even microorganisms, cells at small scales.

It is also even possible to design their artificial versions and give them even cooler names such as Janus particles! Ayten Gülce Bayram, Bilkent University

My research aims at understanding how to design small carrier that can propel themselves from A (where it is injected, in the arm) to B (in the brain) to deliver drugs against brain tumors.

I use the computer to make a simpler version of the real carrier that allows me to study it without making potentially dangerous and costly experiments. JƩrƩmie Marc Bertrand, EPFL

My research is on Active Matter, that is matter that moves by itself, like bacteria, or birds. I use the computer and equations to calculate and simulate the behavior of this matter in interesting and complicate places, like inside the human body. (1/2)

This research can have big implications for medicine: it can be used to improve the delivery of drugs šŸ’Šinside the body and recognize illnesses early. (2/2) Davide Breoni, University of Dusseldorf
