Unnecessary glove use has a big impact on planetary health & can be disruptive to hand hygiene.   With World #Handhygieneday this Friday we’ve created posters to help highlight when you don’t need to reach for a pair of gloves.   Download them at ics.ac.uk/sustainability 🌏

NHS bosses are warning of significant disruption to services across England with a 3-day junior doctor strike now underway. Thousands of appointments and operations are expected to be cancelled at a time of extraordinary hot weather. We spoke to Arjan Singh.

We have written to Amanda Pritchard to raise serious concerns about the way that NHS England are engaging with the national derogations system and we are seeking her urgent intervention. Read the letter: bma.org.uk/media/fxqnyms5…

When our regulator distorts what is meant by "medical practitioner", as in what the public (as well as anyone internationally) would understand to mean a qualified doctor, it will lead to significant confusion for patients and further devalue the medical profession in the UK.

"Patients must know who is treating them and the skills and abilities that clinician has." Today, we have published new guidance on the scope of responsibilities for Medical Associate Professionals (MAPs). Read more here: bma.org.uk/bma-media-cent…

This is an important thread. Rosie describes lucidly the feelings of her cohort of anaesthetic trainees who were basically thrown under a bus whilst another group of associate professionals were ushered into a limousine to get trained instead. Sadly. Her story is common.

We have written to GMC to raise our serious concerns about the recent suspension of Dr Sarah Benn. There must be an urgent review of the basis on which Dr Benn found herself in front of a medical tribunal.

This video of an AA at a GMC event about the loopholes in their scope of practice, apparently allowing AAs to provide remote site anaesthesia (IR) with distant supervision and up to 4:1 supervision, deserves more views. Obvious patient safety risk! youtu.be/VQjrDFIvvg8?si…

Asking medical students to volunteer doing things with little /no educational value to compensate for the failure of a service contracted to a private provider is unacceptable. They should be offered a wage for this work, and preferably the bill should be paid by SYNLAB UK & Ireland

Still in awe of the paramedics who somehow got an IV in me after I was down for >10 minutes due to cardiac arrest. It was 4am, dark, and their hazmat suit face shields were fogging up. Sounds impossible.

The whole point of GMC is to keep patients safe from harm. But what if, like OFWAT & OFCOM, it’s turning into another politically-neutered, failing regulator? I cannot stand silently by as GMC fails patients in the PA debacle. Here’s why 👇 app.prospectmagazine.co.uk/story/68829/co…

I hope we see a robust response from HNE Health, as many would imagine that this message would be indicative of a deeper culture that devalues frontline medical staff. ASMOF NSW
