San Francisco-based OpenAI published an "EU Economic Blueprint" — a list of suggestions for EU policymakers to boost the economy using AI. I get this is standard lobbying, but it's not the best *timing* for a U.S. tech giant to try and give economics lessons to Brussels.

I like that the two leading theories about what's going on are that Trump: a) is playing 4-dimensional chess to fundamentally restructure the global financial system on the back of the latest innovations in AI and automation or b) he doesn't understand comparative advantage

If I were a European central bank and Powell gets removed from the Fed I'd be feeling very nervous about continuing to store my gold reserves in the U.S. Particularly given a U.S. administration that feels like Europeans are freeloaders.

After all, as anyone who has ever played Mario Kart knows, even if you’re dead last, you can still end up in first place if the two players ahead of you start tripping each other up. politico.eu/article/why-us…

Industrial policy does work, sometimes. Figuring out why China got it right — I'm guessing a combo of: big internal market, focus on few objectives, and ruthlessness in culling losers — will be key for EU policymakers looking to replicate its success. wsj.com/world/china/be…
