Concerned about fracturing of UK political consensus on climate action Chopping and changing policies creates uncertainty for businesses and the public Ultimately this makes it more difficult to attract investment and pushes up costs for consumers (1/2)

This is cynical beyond belief. The PM is pretending to halt frightening proposals that simply do not exist. He is doing it to turn the environment into a US-style political wedge issue - something the UK has avoided all my political life. Sunak is chucking the environment into

Earlier today, UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman stood and encouraged the United Nations to discard its 1951 Refugee Convention, which has aimed to uphold the rights of people seeking sanctuary globally for decades. We reject this assertion in its entirety. #lgbtiq #asylum

An absolute pleasure working with you Stuart - you’ll be sorely missed by Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research and CAST - but a new adventure awaits and a whole new set of people are about to get a brilliant colleague.

Great questions from Prof Sarah Bridle to the always engaging George Monbiot. Wide ranging chat including:ā€˜agricultural sprawl’, economic power being turned into political power, highly concentrated power in the food system and open source meat substitute technologies…

The flooding pictures are coming in from our property teams. It’s extraordinary that critics say the National Trust shouldn’t campaign on climate change and we should stick to our ā€˜true purpose’. Caring for places like this is what we do; fire and floods destroy them.

I got a lot of ā€˜it’s just a flood plain’ responses to my earlier National Trust flooding pic. So here are some more: Belton and Charlecote this morning. Deniers will deny but this is what our people are seeing today at the places they look after on behalf of the nation.

Locational pricing could save Ā£28-51b on energy bills between 2025-40. We analysed 2 case studies (large industrial plants) to see the impact of them operating in Scotland instead of South to make the most of cheaper, greener local energy: octopus.energy/blog/unleashin…

In 2018, the National Infrastructure Commission assumed a heat pump sCOP of 2.5 in its analysis. The Electrification of Heat trial from 2021 (during covid) gave 2.8 measured. I'm getting 3.7. We're now seeing real world sCOPs of over 4. This innovation is great! (1/n)

While the original 'Plan B' included the social sciences, arts and humanities, disappointing to see this funding focused only on the sciences ... it's almost as if we didn't have any societal problems or planetary crises that warranted big and bold investment in research...

It is difficult to see how this text will help to achieve the deep and rapid cut in emissions we need by 2030 to keep 1.5c alive With so many countries backing clear language on fossil-fuel-phase-out, who does this text actually serve? #COP28
