Found this old notebook from 2005/2006πŸ’œ Blew my mind how much we relied on writing. Mum had no speech but could write a lot of keywords or draw little diagrams. We pieced together what she wanted to say. So much effort for us all. Jan you've come so farπŸ’œπŸ˜Ž #Aphasia

It is incredibly unfortunate to have a #stroke but we are so grateful that Jan was able to get the best stroke treatment available in 2005 πŸ’œ it definitely saved enough of her brain to live a full and independent life.

New TV AdπŸ’œ I'll never forget seeing mum for the first time in hospital laying unconscious, with tubes &monitors everywhere. Terrifying. I knew instantly life had changed and had no idea what would happen next. We will always be grateful for the support of Stroke Association πŸ’œ

I defy you not to laugh along πŸ˜†Jan has #Aphasia from a #Stroke & has difficulty speaking. The story isn't actually funny at all! But when mum gets the giggles that's itπŸ’œWe did learn that in an emergency mum can shout "stop" when needed, that's the driving instructor in herπŸ˜†

It’s important we recognise the most common signs & symptoms of a Stroke and act F.A.S.T to call 999 (or the emergency services number wherever we are in the world) immediately. All On The Board #WorldStrokeDay #Strokes #Stroke #StrokeAwareness

Love thisπŸ’œWhen we 1st met other Stroke Survivors & Carers it was the changing point in mum's recovery. She felt inspired & hopeful againπŸ’œ We really encourage reaching out & find people who get it, whether that's social media/online, on the phone or at a group #WorldStrokeDay

This one really got me πŸ₯Ή you can see the instant connection they made being #stroke survivors and dad's to similar age kids. So powerful to talk to someone who just gets it πŸ’œ #WorldStrokeDay

Today is #WorldStrokeDay2024 We share this photo as a reminder that #Stroke can affect anyone, anywhere at any age. Jan was on the beach in Mexico on 5th July 2005. 46, fit, healthy & enjoying her holiday. Seconds later she had collapsed on the beach & life forever changed.

Heard yesterday that our poor accessibility experience with calling the DWP is going to be used as a training opportunity...so that feels like a win πŸ’œ #Aphasia

We're looking to grow our YouTube channel so we can better organise & create new #Stroke & #Aphasia videos thereπŸ’œ I know some of the videos already get used in different training, awareness & teaching opportunities. Please subscribe there if you can πŸ₯° youtube.com/@alifeafterstr…
