Buddhists gathered in Council Chamber Wednesday to support Councillor Damerla’s motion declaring May as Buddhist Heritage Month. This colourful gathering of members of local temples - another verification of Mississauga as one of the most diverse cities in Canada.

Here we all are doing the sod turning for the expansion of the Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital and Shaw Family Women and Children’s Hospital. Note we require a wrangler to keep us in line and to coordinate the somewhat graceful (?) motions involved. A pretty exciting morning!

Huge thank you to Minister of Housing and Municipal Affairs Robert Flack and to Premier Ford for making this essential step forward to igniting residential building in Mississauga and the Region of Peel. Huge thanks also to Brampton and Caledon for having faith in Minister Flack.

Happy Pride Day! Incredible parade going on in Toronto on a perfect warm and sunny day. We have come a long way in my lifetime, celebrating every person who contributes to our diverse society. Congratulations to organizers of today’s events despite tough times and fewer sponsors.

How is Canada’s status as a significant world player, with realistic tax decisions - established by a vote of the House of Commons - taken seriously when a newly elected PM can just cancel it? Trump’s press secretary says Canada “caved”! Bad start! And Trump bullies us again.

Streetsville’s Town Square was jam packed with wall to wall people having an amazing celebration of the 158th birthday of the best country in the world. Proud to join Councillor Brad Butt on a glorious sunny afternoon in the heart of the village.

Congratulations to Councillor Hart on Malton’s tenth year celebration of Canada Day! I arrived just in time for the last two songs by Steven’s Garage Band - one being my personal favourite, Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline. As always the bouncy castles and train ride were jammed.

A fine finale to a fabulous day joining Councillor Dasko and tens of thousands of delighted folks jamming every inch of Port Credit to watch a massive fireworks display. Shooting from a barge in Lake Ontario, Ray Brazeau - an explosive artist of enormous talent - out did himself!

For those interested, this is the huge barge in Lake Ontario, just off the shores of Port Credit. These are the fireworks being set up and choreographed for one of the most spectacular displays I’ve seen in a very long time. Councillor Dasko has even bigger plans for next year!

Kick off ceremonies, Mississauga’s Celebration of Canada’s158th Birthday! Joined by Deputy Mayors John Kovac Ward 4 and Matt Mahoney Ward 8, Councillors Fonseca Ward 3 and Tedjo Ward 2, MPs Iqra Kaled, Peter Fonseca and Fares Al Soud and MPP Sheref Sabawy. Love the lady in red!

Wonderful time with the Mississauga Seniors Cultural Association at The Valleys today. A delightful crowd celebrating Canada Day on a very warm day under large sun shelter & picnic tables. At one point a dozen ladies were up dancing to a catchy Punjabi beat. Huge cake to share.

Still can’t get over the sea of people in Port Credit last evening. My grandkids were there! Massive lineups into every restaurant and store. Economic boon to the Village must have been incredible. All thanks to the BIA and Councillor Dasko who never gave up when problems arose.

Thank you Sardul Thiara for bringing a group of visitors from India, here on a conference, to city hall. After a meeting with myself and Deputy Mayor Mahoney, they posed in the Council Chamber with the youngest fellow assuming the mayor’s seat. We exchanged gifts to commemorate.

Fabulous evening commemorating 3 Slovak immigrants buying a beautiful piece of land close to Streetsville in 1945. Families through generations gather here at small cottages and a large club hall, to celebrate the Slovak diaspora from all over the GTA. As always, a great event.

Met today with Greg Crossman of Canadian Pet Expo who will be coming back to his home town of Port Credit in June of 2026. Learned a lot in our meeting today from someone who really cares about the animals he works with. Thanks to Councillor Dasko for arranging a great meeting.
