Losses at the Bank of England are costing the Treasury £22bn on average for the rest of parliament. Cumulative costs are £13bn higher than expected in October. The UK is an outlier internationlly, both in terms of the size of these losses and billing them to taxpayers.

Disability cuts *are* cuts to carers benefits Households with a disabled person and a carer could lose over £1000 a month, with a net cut of £500m to carers benefits These are already some of the most financial insecure families in the country who need more support, not less.

AI has advanced so much that people are no longer able to distinguish it from humans in chat conversations. We will need to decide what role we want this new type of intelligence to play in society (eg on social media or for young people). Current policy is not keeping up.

Well what can I say, I didn't expect to be doing the media rounds on the HMT Green Book, but here we are. Looking forward to seeing big changes next week to how investment in our regions is valued.

This FT article on UK tax is a bit too vibes-based. UK taxes are unremarkable in European context. Our tax wedge is in the lower third of OECD countries. Our 24% CGT rate is lower than many European countries. Where the UK does stand out is the cost of housing and childcare.
