Although I mostly focus on the golden era of 1960-1980, I listen to all music ever recorded in human history, from Charlie Patton to Stan Getz to Tiesto. My favorite band is Men Without Hats, believe it or not. (I'm not kidding! Why are you laughing? 😂) youtu.be/Mpdo6E7WxAo?si…

Heard this one on Jumpin' Joe Madigan's Basement Show on WJCU last weekend and it's really stuck with me. They were around for at least three years 1968-1970 (and were The Red Cats before that) but released only two 45s. youtu.be/yggcGYa1U50?si…

Watched ROME '78 (1978), shot on Super-8 film in NYC, ostensibly about Roman gladiators (where's your suspension of disbelief?) with artist David McDermott (the guy who sings in the restaurant in BASQUIAT), John Lurie, Lydia Lunch, James Chance and a bunch of other hipsters!

Pretty sure I've performed this Fats Domino song in every band I've ever been in over the years. (Technically, in my head, I was always covering the Sleepy LaBeef version, but I think Sleepy's rendition was directly inspired by Wayne Fontana's.) youtu.be/0Mx8Y4l7Npo?si…

When I was just a scallion, around 1971, my dad got me a SOMA puzzle (a blue one) at Mr. Wiggs department store. Only seven pieces, and yet once it's disassembled it's maddening to put back together. Invented in the 1930s but the Parker Brothers edition became a fad in 1969.
