Round two of RIV-ESCAPE Project Lewis fieldwork is underway! Collected our first #CO2 and #CH4 samples today 🫧 It’s great to be back on the bogs, and wouldn’t be possible without the support of Hilde Cronwright Oxford Earth Sciences 🌱 Bob Hilton Joshua Dean @[email protected] #PeatTwitter

That’s a wrap on #Lewis #peatland fieldwork for now - due to a cancelled ferry I even had time to get a mountain day in on Clisham which was a nice bonus. Aside from the ferry hiccup it’s been a good field trip 🫧 Now on to Aviemore for #PeatConf24 🌱

Some tools can take measurements of carbon flux every second. In a new Journal of Geophysical Research: Biogeosciences paper, researchers describe an R package designed to help users sort through all those data. eos.org/research-spotl…

Is A River Alive? is published today. It’s about the lives, deaths & rights of rivers—& how our fate flows with that of water & always has. To the people & rivers whose ideas run through its pages: thank you so much. I think it might be the book I’ve been learning how to write

A positive step for #peatland #conservation in England - you can’t protect something you can’t measure 🗺️ naturalengland.blog.gov.uk/2025/05/12/a-n…

Today is #WorldPeatlandsDay! 🌎 These amazingly boggy ecosystems are threatened by human pressures/climate change, but international/interdisciplinary awareness and collaboration is helping to mitigate this. Pics from RIV-ESCAPE Project fieldwork on Isle of Lewis, April 2025

No advert out yet, but I will be recruiting a 2yr postdoc, start date autumn 2025, at livunigeog soon. Lowland and upland peatlands, GHGs, DOM and water chemistry. Plenty of fieldwork. Feel free to drop me a DM or email if you might be interested, and please spread the word.
