Wildfires in Canada have forced thousands of residents to evacuate in three provinces, impacting air quality in the U.S. — and smoke from the deadly fires has even blown across the Atlantic and reached the U.K. How many more 'historic' seasons do we need before we #ActOnClimate

Kudos to the 100+ 🇨🇦 women leaders who signed #WomenLeadingonClimate’s letter calling on provincial securities regulators to stop delaying & move now on climate disclosure. It’s about more competitive, efficient and resilient markets. Sign & share! 💪 womenleadingonclimate.org/csa-letter-new…

"There has never been a more important moment for Canada to show the world that it is open and ready for business. Adopting a globally-aligned climate disclosure standard will send that signal.” It's time for provincial securities regulators to step up! #WomenLeadingonClimate

The end of the internal combustion engine? Global sales of petrol and diesel cars peaked in 2017/18 and are now falling. The shift to electric and low-carbon transport is well underway—and EV sales are rising fast.

Severe wildfires are raging in more than 200 locations across Canada. Half of the fires are believed to be out of control. Smoke from the blazes is drifting as far as the United States and Europe.

Horrifying to read this story - the impact of climate change is here and now. 30,000 people having to leave their homes, a massive impact on remote Indigenous communities, and smoke causing dangerous air quality levels in North America.

The plastic pollution is choking our planet, harming ecosystems & the climate. Plastic waste clogs rivers, pollutes the ocean & endangers wildlife. This #WorldEnvironmentDay, let’s end the scourge of plastic pollution together & build a better future for us all.

Shocked & very sad to hear about the death of Marc Garneau. He was a trail-blazing Canadian who brought his unique perspective to politics. He understood that we all need to care for the only home we have. It was an honour to work with him. Rest in peace, Marc.

The real story here is how little progress has been made in reducing per-barrel emissions in the oil sands. If Alberta's government wants to change that -- which is debatable! -- they need to get the oil sands companies off their wallets and investing in their CCUS projects.

Smoky weekend possible for much of Alberta... Very windy Friday will contribute to extreme fire danger and rapid spread of fires in northeast BC. Smoke generated by these fires will spread southeastward through Alberta on the weekend. 😷 #yyc #yeg

Due to smoke from wildfires thousands of kilometers away, according to IQAir Toronto and Montreal are experiencing some of the worst air quality in the world. Widespread special air quality statement in place for ON and QC. Some improvement expected Saturday and Sunday.

We are in a fossil fuel climate crisis. 30,000 Canadians displaced from wildfires, dangerous air quality thousands of miles away. Meanwhile, oil & gas is Canada’s largest source of emissions & their GHGs ⬆️ 70% from 2005-2023, while 🇨🇦’s GHGs ⬇️ by 8.5%. They are the problem.

We’re in a fossil fuel climate crisis but Danielle Smith demands the federal govt build pipelines & eliminate environmental protections while penalizing renewable projects in Alberta. The 🌎 is moving forward on clean energy; Alberta will be left behind. theglobeandmail.com/opinion/editor…

Insanity. This is short-term thinking while parts of Canada burn and communities are destroyed, and vulnerable people in many of our biggest cities can't breathe.

“This is the first time I’ve seen fires in Canada survive two winters and I’ve been watching fires closely since the 1970s. A number of these fires started in 2023, burned through the winter … continued to grow in 2024 and then survived this winter." thestar.com/opinion/contri…

Interesting. If climate change is exacerbating wildfires and we are in a fossil fuel climate crisis, will Scott Moe acknowledge the role of fossil fuels? Asking for the 30,000 people who are displaced & all those suffering from smoke and air quality warnings.
