Probably the least favorite part of ranching, transplanting a calf..especially having to skin the old one because the mom can’t be fooled.

A lot of herbicide injury showing up, especially on soybeans from extreme dry conditions followed by the rain during emergence. Most of them grow out of it, but fields like this have some significant stand reduction.

Rye makes a great cover crop, until it doesn’t die and just becomes a weed robbing moisture, sunlight and fertilizer.

By far some of the worst 1st cutting alfalfa I’ve ever cut, between drought and weevils the windrows are pretty thin. Hoping with the recent rains second will be decent.

What’s everyone recommend for a rake these days? These H&S rakes don’t hold up and they do a terrible job skipping over hay.

It’s very interesting this year to see the vast differences in compaction and how much better the corn looks where the soil was compacted. In a typical wet spring, you would see the opposite effect.

CRW damage is being exposed following 60+mph wind. Managing beetles is critical if planning to stay continuous corn, regardless of trait.

These grain market speculators crack me up, especially when we haven’t hit pollination or the disease and insect gauntlet yet. Not very often the best looking beans around yield the best, and corn is one good wind away from being your worst crop ever. It’ll be what’ll be.
