Great to see the work of so many outstanding colleagues acknowledged The Society of Authors #TranslationPrizes British Library last night. Extra hurrahs from this corner for the Germanists, esp. winner Andrew Shanks and runner-up Imogen Taylor, and a shout-out to Natasha Lehrer 👋🎉

Thank God for Sue Mitchell, her empathy, dedication and terrier-like persistence. Proper, life-changing investigative journalism. x.com/BBCRadio4/stat…

Just started reading this engrossing novel by Eva Menasse in fine translation by Charlotte Collins. Was delighted to attend Austrian embassy event for author & translator this week. (Eva Menasse’s remarkable first novel, Vienna, was translated by my late mother, Anthea Bell.)

Wonderful event hosted by the Austrian Ambassador in London on Tuesday to celebrate Eva Menasse and her novel DARKENBLOOM (tr. by me). Exhilarating reading to a room packed to capacity with interested (potential) readers! Many thanks to Austrian Embassy London and to all who came.

Very excited to see this excellent review of #DARKENBLOOM by James Wood in The New Yorker! #EvaMenasse #translation

🚨We are surrounding Parliament right now.🚨 Holding the line. And telling PM Keir Starmer loud and clear: Starving children is a red line. Stop arming Israel. #RedLine #StarmerActNow #ArmsEmbargoNow #SanctionIsrael

This beautiful novel, located between Iran and Germany, came out in the UK last week. 'The Nights Are Quiet in Tehran' ... what savagely ironic timing. Look at this gorgeous writing by author Shida Bazyar and translator Ruth Martin. Please read it. shorturl.at/P0tz8
