We welcome Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan’s renewed commitment to ending rough sleeping but this crisis extends beyond London and rough sleeping. Homelessness is a national scandal that demands a coordinated national strategy, backed by sustained, high-level funding from central government.

Youth homelessness is higher than ever – and young people have their own needs and routes out of homelessness. So, we took over Parliament Square last week to ensure young people aren’t the missing chapter in the government’s upcoming Ending Homelessness strategy!

Two years ago, we opened Reuben House with our Patron – part of our Independent Living Programme, which provides young people with a place to call their own. To make housing truly affordable and end the cycle of homelessness, the rent here is capped at 1/3 of their salary.

New stats show that the number of young people aged 25 and under sleeping rough in London has increased by 24% in the last year. The government must act quickly to get a grip of this crisis. bit.ly/3Gns3aU

It was great to be in Sheffield today to celebrate two years of Homewards with our Patron The Prince and Princess of Wales and other organisations – and to raise awareness of the importance of pre-16 prevention to end youth homelessness.

This is great news! Removing the need for a local connection is a huge barrier lifted for some of the country’s most vulnerable young people – and should help in reducing homelessness more broadly. bit.ly/4eNMkU0
