I'm working on a piece on coping with complexity in neuroscience. And hence my question: do you feel overwhelmed with the complexity of the system you study? And - if so - what is your personal remedy for that feeling?

FFS every neuroscientist in the field seems to have the magic ability to somehow "rescue" the phenotype that the see in cells, mice etc. But these never lead anywhere. Guys stop bullshitting us. You should not be required to rescue the phenotype to get a paper published.

🔍Check out our paper Cell where we identify leptin-sensitive hypothalamic PNOC/NPY neurons as key regulators of hunger and food intake! 💫🌟Excited to share what I’ve been up to the last years Max Planck Institute for Metabolism Research cell.com/cell/fulltext/…

Today, a decision to increase ERC support for researchers moving to Europe was adopted. On top of normal grants, the ERC offers 'start-up' funding to help PIs establish laboratories/research teams in Europe. This extra is now x2 (up to €2 million!) europa.eu/!6Vdgmp

Thrilled to share our latest preprint and first major project from the lab, where we show a mechanism for direct interoceptive input to the insular cortex. Work by the incredible Zhe Zhao with help from many others including Stefano Berto, PhD

My new self-description: branch-lowering. Better than toolmaking, something I never really liked. "One of the deep problems we have in science is that we reward the people who pick the fruit rather than the ones who lower the branches."

🚨Paper alert! 📣  We found abnormal feeding-related neural responses in satiety-promoting, MC4R-expressing neurons in the mouse paraventricular hypothalamus (PVHM-C4R) following diet-induced obesity. biorxiv.org/content/10.110… #obesity #feedingbehaviour #obesityresearch

📢 🤩Excited to share our latest paper on a #Sensory circuit that limits #Feeding before the first bite👃🧠! Huge thanks to the amazing first author @JaniceBulk and all co-authors, especially Andreas Schaefer and @tobiasackels 🙌! nature.com/articles/s4225…

My first first-author paper is live - this is amazing!! 🤩 Check it out in Nature Metabolism: nature.com/articles/s4225… I can't thank my co-authors and everyone who helped make this happen enough! Sophie Steculorum Max Planck Institute for Metabolism Research

Exciting news from Sophie Steculorum's Lab!🤓 👃🧠 Smelling food primes your brain for satiety. Find out more in 🧵 or under 🔗 nature.com/articles/s4225… Congrats to Sophie Steculorum, first author Janice Bulk and all contributing authors!

PAPER ALERT!📢  🧠What happens to the brain when glucose runs low? Does synaptic transmission collapse because neurons are starving? Or is there another, often-overlooked cell that senses the metabolic crisis and pulls the emergency brake? Let’s talk about astrocytes! 🤩🧵👇

Excited to share our new study arguing for the existence of parallel neural pathways mediated by LepR or non-LepR neurons that each is sufficient to drive obesity. The obesity driven by non-LepR neurons is relevant to DIO and can be a novel neural basis for leptin resistance.

The neurons that encode sequential information into working memory do not fire in that same order during recall, a finding that is at odds with a long-standing theory. Read more in this month’s Null and Noteworthy. By Laura Dattaro thetransmitter.org/null-and-notew…
