22% of GPs say they might not be working in the NHS in just three years. Without urgent action, we risk losing vital experience and care. We must act to #RebuildGP./ #TeamGP

"Mr Streeting recognises that we as GPs are so clearly the beating heart of the NHS family. We now need him to follow through and treat us as such" @DrKatie.BSky.Social referencing Wes Streeting's latest response to our ongoing NI concerns in her speech today at LMC conference 👇

This is the best thread I’ve read on the PA issue It’s absolutely superb & succinctly breaks down the issues from conception to employment. The evidence is damming & speaks for itself A must read for all patients & HCPs, particularly NHS leaders Wes Streeting

@medicalmodelwithabriochebun Royal College of General Practitioners Dr Steve Taylor Parody RCGP - Not a Doctor or PA DAUK GP Committee Neena Jha Dr Rachel Clarke @DrKatie.BSky.Social They'll probably just remake it/reintroduce something similar under a different name. After 40 yrs of restructuring by private profiteers embedded in NHS structures, they are not going to stop the trajectory now they r so close to finish line

@medicalmodelwithabriochebun Royal College of General Practitioners Parody RCGP - Not a Doctor or PA DAUK GP Committee Neena Jha Dr Rachel Clarke @DrKatie.BSky.Social ARRS will not be cut with the current NHS England board in place They think it’s working despite the 31000 staff adding just 40m appts for £1.4bn Compared to 27000 GPs doing 160m appts Cost-benefit not being done at the highest levels & they actually don’t know how it works

Misleadingingly contextualised piece, Nick Triggle, which relies, predictably enough, on those infamous anonymous NHS senior sources. The crux of the issue is not, as you claim, 'the speed at which [PAs] are being recruited". 1/n bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Dr Rachel Clarke (@doctor_oxford) 's Twitter Profile Photo

NHS England GMC It also makes a mockery of patient consent, with numerous examples of PAs pretending to patients that they are doctors, and patients consenting to treatment on that basis. Such context was crucial balance for your piece, Nick. Disappointing to see you ignore it. Ends/

Dr Rachel Clarke (@doctor_oxford) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Last thought - please consider reading my piece from June for context, Nick - it's so much more complex than you imply. Finally, I am speaking out for one reason only - because I care about patients & the quality of their care. Feel free to quote me. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

I agree with Dr Clarke as the 1st point of my Leng List - patient safety is prejudiced by de-skilling the healthcare system & replacing doctors with PAs. No one can argue against this statement. Prof Leng must hear this LOUD & CLEAR. FOCUS on this, ignore the noise.

It was always about Doctor replacement Rather than work on the root cause of lack of doctors in a certain area. You know why? These were the poorest areas. The most vulnerable people. The people the gov wants you to believe whom don’t matter. Is this what our society’s come

ARRS will not be cut with the current NHS England board in place Think it’s working despite the 31k staff adding just 40m appts for £1.4bn Compared to 27k GPs doing 160m appts Cost-benefit not being done at the highest levels & they actually don’t know how it works Wes Streeting

🚨 ARRS see 3% of patients, Yet take up 25% of the budget. Just criminal - the whole scheme needs to be binned 🚮. *PCNs are & always have been a gravy train* So much of our precious NHS funds wasted on pointless bureaucracy.
