Ending the unregulated drug death crisis, homelessness, safe supply, gender affirming care, trans rights, reproductive rights, uncovering the deaths of Indigenous children…. These should not be made in to topics of a culture war. These are lives. These are people. Not debatable

To me, a palliative approach to care puts the focus back on the person, their desires, needs rather than the systems. This matters so much more in contexts where people have been harmed by systems #ThisIsPalliativeCare

I can not express how lucky I feel to be involved in this project and the guide that has been released. I find it hard to articulate my thoughts on the work I do and the injustice I see (and in turn perpetuate). I’m proud of the team and hope you’ll take a look.

In a social/structural climate that doesn’t meet everyone’s needs equally, I see a palliative approach to care as a radical approach that strives to mitigate this by ensuring the person at the centre of care guides and determines the care they receive #ThisisPalliativeCare

If a palliative approach to care is when someone’s care needs and wishes are heard and met in self-determined ways, then its not constricted to happening in and specific place or at any specific time. It should be everywhere and it should be all the time! #ThisisPalliativeCare

Q3: Much of the harm done in contexts of inequity involves the removal of choice for those who cannot afford to buy their autonomy. Reducing suffering means reducing the harms of our systems of care by centering people in their care decisions #thisispalliativecare

Q4: If someone does not want support, you can respect their wishes-much in the same way I would hope someone would treat me if I felt that way #thisispalliativecare

‘Chosen caregivers’ signifies different roles and relationships for everyone. Whether it be friends, pets, a worker, family (however one defines it), etc., these carers aren’t excluded from someone’s care plans and processes and are cared for, too. #ThisisPalliativeCare

When I read and think of this resource, I think of people: those who wrote and shaped it (who I’ve been so lucky to get to know and learn from+with) and those I’ve known who have made reading it resonate for me- in grief, in love, in rage. Anyway, smiling like this today.

STOP THE SWEEPS screening in ‘Vic’ this Sunday (15th) at the downtown community centre on Pandora. Doors at 3:00, screening at 3:45, and dinner served afterward accompanied by chats with folks involved in the doc.

"We asked Health Canada for permission to do it legally and they said no. None of us want to be outlaws in this but they forced us to. I can't believe two of my friends got arrested for saving lives," he said. cbc.ca/news/canada/br…
