As you climb the steps up to St Peter's, Raunds your first view of the 13thC tower may well stop you in your tracks. The slightly restless nature of the decoration makes for a 'wow' moment. #SteepleSaturday

A lone little medieval face at St Peter's, Tickencote. Placed so he's always looking at the jaw dropping chancel arch, such a lucky chap! #StainedGlassSunday

This stunning carving was found under the chancel floor at St Kyneburgha, Castor in 1928 and is assumed to have come from her shrine. Dating from either the late 8th or early 9thC it's a wonderful thing to get so close to, the folds of cloth, his face.. #SundayStonework

St Peter and St Paul, Great Casterton has a fabulous collection of 18thC gravestones, nearly all carved from local stone. This one shows the sacrifice of Abraham with the ram hiding behind a very unconvincing tree and two bonus children and a donkey! #MonumentsMonday

After an excellent talk about graffiti on glass by Dr Crystal Hollis at Leicester Guildhall last night here's my favourite teeny skull in the very same building for #MementoMoriMonday

Tiny little prancing birds at St Andrew's, Barnwell. The chancel was remodelled in the 1870s and the tiled floor by Maw's was apparently added then, it's striking without being garish. #TilesOnTuesday

The great 15thC east window at St Kyneburgha, Castor. The altar frontal with its golden fish is rather unusual too. #TraceryTuesday #TextileTuesday

Three ladies with the most fantastic headgear on 15thC misericords at St Mary's, Tansor. Originally from Fotheringhay they were moved here at a later date and are incredibly well carved. #Woodensday

Although the wall paintings at St Mary the Virgin and All Saints, Nassington are somewhat faded they're still interesting. Dating to the mid 14thC, this is St Martin on an incredibly cheerful horse dividing a very ornately patterned cloak for the beggar. #WednesdayWallPaintings

The door into the saxon tower at St John the Baptist, Barnack is a handsome, sturdy no nonsense affair. The two lower stages of the tower are dated 1000-1020 and the amazing thing is that subsequent generations didn't alter or modernise. #Adoorableday #AdoorableThursday

They obviously liked this lovely curly capital far too much at St Mary's, Tansor to get rid of it so it's been repurposed as the perfect candle shelf.

The 13thC font at St John the Baptist, Barnack is lovely but raises questions.. The upper part of the decoration seems to be stylistically different to the semi circular palms at the base and it's large for a font of that date, maybe an earlier font recut? #FontsOnFriday

There's something incredibly rocket-like about the tower and spire at St Mary the Virgin and All Saints, Nassington. The lower three stages are 11thC and the spire is dated 1640 🚀 #SteepleSaturday

The stunning fan-vault of 1529 at St Mary and All Saints, Fotheringhay makes you yearn for what was lost but thankful that it remains to gaze up at. #SundayStonework #Alwayslookup

A rather unusual 17thC painted memorial with faded skulls, crossed bones and hourglasses to Elizabeth Worthington at St Andrew's, Barnwell. Somewhat reminiscent of a hatchment in its shape it's survived in remarkably good condition. #MonumentsMonday #MementoMoriMonday

The canopies above Ralph Green d.1417 and his wife Katherine at St Peter's, Lowick are backed with the most stunning tracery. Made of alabaster in 1419 in Chellaston, Derby it's a virtuosa piece of carving. #TraceryTuesday
