15 years ago my PhD advisor taught me One Weird Trick for editing your own writing. Edit **back to front**, paragraph by paragraph. I still use it and it still surprises me how well it works. When I get my students to do it, it often blows their minds. Try it!

Now is a great time to apply to QBioS PhD @ GT. QBioS is a student-focused, interdisciplinary PhD program focused on the quantitative biosciences. As of today, we are waiving all application fees. Just email [email protected] prior to submission so we can pay for it.

Very happy to see this work led by Kevin Gozzi published in PLOS Biology! GTAs are weird, amazing entities... Also represents end of an era for me- last Caulobacter paper from my lab after working on this bug since I was in grad school. 1/2

Check out Liam Holt and I's perspective on amazing work from Cary Boyd-Shiwarski, MD/PhD @DShiwarski and Arohan Subramanya's lab.. WNK kinases are crowding sensors that phase separate to initiate a signaling cascade that regulates cell volume! 1/5 Paper: tinyurl.com/2p96utjr authors.elsevier.com/c/1g845L7PXiqab

Had a fascinating conversation w/ a grad student this morning. I explained to him that he was not trying to prove his hypothesis, he is testing his hypothesis, and that a good hypothesis is one that can be disproved, ideally quickly. He said that no one had ever told him that.

Like, how many structurally important variables are missing? Can't just omit them from the story because we don't have them. Gotta think forward from scientific model of phenomenon, not backwards from the columns in the spreadsheet.

Random suggestion to help avoid doomscrolling: drop your phone's refresh rate to 60Hz. It makes scrolling just a bit more painful and less immersive for me which I find helpful.
