I don't think it was Ezra Klein's intent, but he did a real service here. Khalil has been guarded and careful to just deflect and spin in most interviews. But Klein made him feel so comfortable that he took the mask off and showed that he was exactly who many of us suspected.

NEW: Is the internet changing our personalities for the worse? Conscientiousness and extroversion are down, neuroticism up, with young adults leading the charge. This is a really consequential shift, and there’s a lot going on here, so let’s get into the weeds 🧵

If the headline terms still feel fuzzy, we can dig into the more detailed traits they’re made up of. Here are some of the sub-traits inside conscientiousness: Young people say they increasingly struggle to make plans and follow through on them. They feel distracted, careless.

To put it another way: distractions derail our intentions. And we’re now more distracted than ever. Distraction is toxic to conscientiousness.

Conscientiousness will separate those who just survive from those who thrive in the 21st century. We can each decide which half of that divide we fall on — but ironically that will take some dedication. Here’s my article in full: ft.com/content/5cd77e…

It's not just a rise in mental illness and a decline of attentional capacity. There is also a set of personality changes that will make it harder for young people to succeed. John Burn-Murdoch thinks smartphones and streaming services are likely culprits: ft.com/content/5cd77e…

John Burn-Burdoch is one of the journalists doing the most to help us understand the massive changes to society, consciousness, and now personality in the smarphone era. This report is astonishing. He brings a lot out from behind the paywall: John Burn-Murdoch

Somewhere last night in New York City, a single mother and her children slept at a homeless shelter because you, assemblyman Zohran Kwame Mamdani are occupying her rent controlled apartment. You grew up rich and married an even wealthier woman. You’ve had weddings on 3 continents.

The Bay Area is closing in on a major transit funding measure. Gov Shapiro is leading strongly on this issue in Pennsylvania. Transit helps everyone, even those who don’t use it. The PA Senate would be shooting itself in the foot if it doesn’t get onboard. Thank you Gov Shapiro!

What has been most striking in this war is not only how international organizations and Western activist groups have uncritically disseminated Hamas propaganda—baldly repeating its claims despite Hamas’ well-documented lack of credibility—but how this process has unfolded in real

It is critical to remember that the Nazi project was never merely about prejudice; it was a coordinated political war on Jewish existence itself—waged through military campaigns, ideological propaganda, and the systematic erasure of Jewish life from public space. That same war,
