Long overdue, but our first grad student Megan McCurry just defended her thesis in May!🤩 She also just gave an AMAZING talk at #bbm2023 Boston Bacterial Meeting (BBM) on her thesis work. 🎉 What an exciting couple of months!

The very first preprint from our lab!! We repurposed a rapidly internalizing receptor TfR1 for membrane protein degradation. We show it works on single-pass, multi-pass, native and synthetic receptors. The overexpression of TfR1 on cancer cells offers potential tumor selectivity.

The first prime editing clinical trial has been cleared by U.S. FDA to begin: prime editing of HSCs to treat chronic granulomatous disease (CGD). Congratulations to Prime Medicine on achieving this key milestone only 4.5 years after we published the first prime editing paper.

Big news!! The culmination of my PhD work is out now in Cell: “Gut bacteria convert glucocorticoids into progestins in the presence of hydrogen gas.” Just some gut bacteria doing cool chemistry that may impact pregnancy phenotypes, check it out! authors.elsevier.com/a/1j8j7L7PXqQmM

How do intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs) regulate protein function? Today in Molecular Cell, we show how the IDR of LSD1 acts as a fuzzy molecular switch to tune transcription factor interactions & control leukemia differentiation. (1/6) sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Check out our new paper published Cell Host & Microbe! Lithocholic acid (LCA) is a metabolic toxin decreased by bariatric surgery. Taurodeoxycholic acid, which is increased by surgery, inhibits LCA production by microbes and has metabolic benefits. authors.elsevier.com/a/1jTSj6t8JEqo……

A recount and update on our efforts to bring base editing to progeria patients as part of a team including Francis Collins, Sammy Basso, Mike Erdos, Leslie Gordon, @Progeria Luke Koblan, Meirui An, Xin "Daniel" Gao, and others, beautifully told by Gina Kolata in the The New York Times:
