🧵The last surviving WW2 Victoria Cross recipient has died: John Alexander Cruickshank, a 24-year-old RAF pilot during WWII, received the Victoria Cross for an act of sheer bravery and determination in July 1944. His story is one of survival, leadership, and refusing to give up

For every retweet of this post, I will donate £1 to the Victoria Cross and George Cross Association up to £50,000. Time is running out following Imperial War Museums’s decision to close the Lord Ashcroft Gallery. Visit while you still can, to honour the bravery of those who risked so much to protect our great nation.

Of course the aid cut was NOT used to increase defence spending. The defence increase was almost entirely capital spending. Most of the aid was current spending. It was cut to prop up domestic spending. A perfectly reasonable choice. But not what was claimed.

Pozieres, 8 July 1917. The unveiling of a memorial to the dead of the 1st Australian Division, killed between July and September 1916. A stone obelisk was erected after the war to commemorate the officers and men of the division who fought in France and Belgium in 1916-18. #WW1
