Excited to share our new preprint! We have done a comprehensive bioinformatic analysis of β-lactamases (all major five classes together). The work pretty much repaints our understanding of how β-lactamases are distributed in the environments. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

🧪B-lactamases can inhibit biofilm formation. On the side, the evolution of a #biofilm lifestyle can counteract this pleiotropy by selecting for genetic variation within b-lactamases, shaping their evolutionary fate. Work led by Øyvind Myrvoll Lorentzen Evolution never stops to amaze me!✨

This account beat me to it… a very talented HFSP postdoc with me (John Chen no twitter) has developed a hierarchical clustering method that overcomes many of the issues with traditional seq similarity networks.
