The death of Michael Michael Parkinson should prompt an appreciation not just of his interviewing but of the value of the long-form interview in general. See my blog post: chrisbowers.org/2023/08/18/foc…

The #audiobook version of my #Federer biography is published today (Thu). I read the intro and then #londonsburning star@JonnyGuyLewis reads the rest. Short clip of end of intro and start of book.

Excellent article by Raz Segal, prof of #holocaust and #genoside studies, on #Israel #Gaza tragedy. We must see the whole problem in context. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

1/3 Folks, this was a bit of fun at the end of a conference, based on exploring if ‘the greatest’ goes beyond stats. Of course Djokovic is the most successful, but is that the same as ‘the greatest’? Maybe yes, but are there other factors? It’s a debate!

2/3 My paper is available from Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum library. You can read it (17 pages) and disagree with its model and workings, but respectfully, please. It is subjective, and if you want to go only by the stats, Djokovic is the most successful. That is clear.

3/3 I have defended Djokovic and explained his thinking more than any other international journalist has, and will continue to do so where I think it’s fair. I believe it’s wrong he was not allowed to compete at Aus and US Open 2022, and have said so.

We need to listen to those who are genuinely willing to hear and think about both sides in the #Israel #Gaza conflict. This article is well worth reading. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

I am one of the 30 signatories to a letter calling on the Liberal Democrats leadership to be clearer about what the party stands for. The party's response (last para) is very disappointing. theguardian.com/politics/2023/…

Apologies to all my friends in environmental NGOs, but I felt this needed saying. Env reality has been known for years, but politicians still feel able to do wrong things. How is this still politically feasible? independent.co.uk/voices/environ…

Maybe I'm guilty of giving a tasteless, provocative stunt undue publicity, but I support Caroline Voaden MP's campaign to get @styleisvisual to withdraw its 'Eat, sleep, rape, repeat' T-shirt. How this can be OK in 2024 beats me.

Delighted the second season of the International Tennis Hall of Fame's Tennis Worthy Podcast launches today with my interview with Jim Courier. These long-form interviews are not just for tennis fans but studies in achieving excellence. tennisfame.com/podcast?utm_ca…

I love chats like these, as they allow me to go to places you don't always go in tennis media work. Hope it's interesting, whether you're a tennis fan or not.

An interview with a controversial person. I always try to understand the person, even if I end up condemning some of their actions or disagreeing with their views. There's a lot here between the lines.

US Supreme Court ruling on #POTUS immunity is quite awful. It's a licence to make the president a dictator. The enormity cannot be underestimated. #USA, such a great idea 250 years ago, is eating itself.

I can no longer justify being on a platform run and contaminated by Elon Musk. I have therefore opened a Bluesky account and will shortly close this one. If you follow me, please switch to Chris Bowers 🔶.bsky.social for similar posts to on here.

We sure need some optimism in British politics, which is why I hosted this podcast discussion with Layla Moran 🔶🕊️, @lynnefeatherstone and Timothy Garton Ash on how we can bring back hope and optimism. Enjoy and share with others! youtube.com/watch?v=nLlV6s…
