I will be chairing this session today at #ica24 please come to join us if you are interested in the dynamic landscape of platform work, exploring the diverse aspects of digital labor, worker agency, and societal evaluations.

The first presentation by Christopher Luz, conducted a large scale social value and occupations survey to fresh our understanding about the current public perception on gig economy.

Leon Salter shifted our attention to the platformization of employment through a document analysis and interviews about home care digital platforms/apps in Aotearoa New Zealand.

The third presentation by Carlos Scolari, showed us the labour competences of on-demand platform workers in Spain with a fantastic and comprehensive infographic using ethnographic approach and thematic content analysis.

The last presentation, by Xiaolan Cai, used an impressive dataset of R packages distributed on GitHub (scraped by PYTHON tho) to examine the researchers’ labour contribute to social coding platforms - eye-opening for all of us who used R daily for our own research!

Great turnout and engaging Q&A discussion on the topic of platform work, labor issues, and the platformization of employment. Looking forward to future collaborations stemming from this insightful panel. The Communication & Technology Division of ICA #ICA24
