Rain fails to stop play at Hastings Jack in the Green, though spending some of the day inside a giant means I managed to stay drier than most. Dropped my phone in the mud shortly after filming this - it was returned via the onstage MC within 10 minutes. 10/10, as usual.

I chatted to Steven L. Sears and Renee O'Connor about the making of Xena: Warrior Princess. I don't think this is the headline any of us anticipated. theguardian.com/culture/articl…

Public service announcement: the 1st track from my forthcoming LP 'Down to the Marshes' has 'dropped' on Bandcamp. If you don't like 'Robin Reliant', like Groucho Marx, I have others. It's officially released on 27 Sept; pre-orders ship well before that: davidcallahan.bandcamp.com/album/down-to-…

I made a tiny contribution to this Guardian article, talking about the time my then seven-year-old decided she wanted to watch Fritz Lang's Metropolis. Also reiterates the importance of keeping music on the school curriculum. theguardian.com/film/article/2…

Hey, Lindy Morrison, my daughter Kitten is in the middle of playing 16 Lovers Lane on crackly vinyl in its entirety on her 4zzz show as part of a celebration of Brisbane acts. Realise it's pretty late, but listen back tomorrow if you feel inclined. xX 4zzz.org.au/program/night-…

Both Gallagher brothers came up in these interviews, but they're getting no column inches on MY watch. NB: Mr Dorff isn't interested in talking about the horror film he made as a kid. "Every time I see Tarantino, he'll be like, 'The Gate!' And I'll be like, 'For fuck's sake...'"

The first of a couple of interviews I've done with former winners of Wildlife Photographer of the Year. I didn't anticipate quite how many of the comments underneath would be readers debating which species of predatory animal they'd sooner be killed by. theguardian.com/artanddesign/a…

Inevitably, I wrote this one up with Ken Dodd warbling in my head. Under the circumstances, I'm not sure he'd have been terribly tickled. theguardian.com/culture/2024/s…

I saw “The Hitcher” back in 1986 at a Scottish Film Council (as it was then) screening at Edinburgh Filmhouse – and I’ve not seen it since but still remember that scene with Jennifer Jason Leigh between the trucks. A brutal, nihilistic film. Recommended! theguardian.com/culture/2024/o…

Good to see my interview with photographer Ricky Flores hitting the streets a week before the US election, when affronted Puerto Ricans in Pennsylvania may yet help consign the Hallowe'en Trumpkin to the compost bin. theguardian.com/artanddesign/2…

These are fab. I've heard a lot about this Tate Modern place and might be tempted to go and see what this 'art' business is all about. theguardian.com/artanddesign/2…
