I’ve been complaining about how the Daily Maverick went from sending me occasional emails about webinars to 5+ emails a day. But I must say I did enjoy the choice of phrasing for this notification:

Just got arrested by the SA Police Service 🇿🇦 while sitting in the back of an uber. Arrested because apparently: I was a foreigner. I had a gun. I had drugs on me. I was drunk. When all was proven wrong and I wanted to file a complaint, the cops ran away from the station

For everyone responding and saying why didn’t you just show your ID, I want to say it’s incredibly brave that Rekgotsofetse Chikane didn’t and chose instead to stand up to the regular brutality shown to foreigners by the police, with growing support by the South African public.

Very timely book discussion HIAS Hamburg featuring the work of our Bucerius Fellow ZEIT STIFTUNG BUCERIUS Christine Hobden and @SvenjaAhlhaus from @WWU_Muenster. Curious to see how political theory can inform the political debate on citizenship law reform in 🇩🇪❓ #Staatsbürgerschaft

Myself and other South African citizens have issued this statement in support of efforts to clean up the University of Fort Hare, and to let the thugs know that we will not repeat the mistake of not supporting public servants who want to do the work of the South African people.

Through the State Capture Report and the stories of whistle-blowers like Mzukisi Makatse and Sello Qhina, we know that such individuals systematically received backlash in the form of malicious disciplinary hearings, side-lining and threats. dailymaverick.co.za/opinionista/20…

1/9 Since we're unlikely to have this much attention on us again, we're using this opportunity to explain what we do and why.
